Lunar Yards - Torchship

The Lunar Yards refers both to the whole of the rocket industry on and around Luna, as well as specifically the Tranquillity Star Rocketworks space factory. These facilities build roughly 70 percent of the IUR's rocketry, with the remainder built in orbit of Earth, Saturn, L4, and purchased from associate members.
Human shipbuilding's enormous scale arose from the need to support an interplanetary civilisation with no FTL travel over a century and a half. The merciless rocket equation, and the physical and radioactive strain of operating torchdrives, meant that immense numbers of rockets would be needed to sustain the flow of people and goods between Earth, Mars, and the outer planets, far beyond the requirements of most FTL-capable societies.
